So we know what got me to the point of wanting to help people in general and especially children. I obtained a Bachelors of Science in Rehabilitation Services from Florida State University in 1994. I did an internship for a rehabilitative halfway house for kids ages 8 to 18 out of college. That was the first time I had gotten my feet wet working with children from abusive and unthinkable living conditions. It was then I knew that my path would lead me to helping people and especially children try to recognize and understand what causes different behaviors and reactions in their life and then work to improve those behaviors. I became a certified personal trainer in 1997 and gym owner and Nutrition Specialist in 2006. Initially my interest was to help the common overweight baby boomer. Show them the proper exercises and guide them in their food choices and get them on the right track basically. My client list expanded quickly into helping people who have been injured and in need of functional rehabilitation. Then I branched out into working with senior citizens. I really enjoy that age demographic. I received a tremendous amount of pleasure in helping people not just on becoming stronger and getting in better shape but focusing more on what exercises specifically will make this person function better and have a more comfortable and productive life. From there I began to work with children in the gym and sometimes at their house. They ranged from 5 to 18 years old. Their needs ranged from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis to ADHD to kids who need sport specific training. I also have worked with many teenagers who had poor self image and eating disorders. I seem to relate well with kids of all ages and physical and emotional needs. I do have a pretty good background in the field. It doesn’t hurt that I am very immature. Don’t get me wrong, physical fitness changed my entire life, personally. I have played a significant role in changing many peoples lives through fitness. But as my career has progressed, what is interesting me more is the human behavior side of a person. Hence the interest in Life Coaching. I have two sons that my world revolves around and they are 8 and 5. My first true Life Coaching session came when my first born was old enough to understand what I was saying and I taught him lessons of respecting other people and never build yourself up by tearing others down. Build others up and you will meet them at the top. I always knew my destiny was to have boys and coach them in whatever sport interested them. That is just what I have done. I have been the head coach for 14 different teams to date and receive praises from every parent I worked with. Not saying this to boast but I know that this my calling. I have logged well over 120 volunteer hours for my sons school. I have chaperoned most of the field trips for the kids classes. This is my comfort zone. I have recently joined the mentoring program of Broward County where I will mentor the kids that are chosen for me by my director. I have also become a member of the International Coaches Federation for Life Coaches where I will continue to further my education and learn the new coaching techniques as they are discovered.
By admission of my Past, it is realized that I did not have any easy time in my childhood. I believe that I turned my bad experiences into a learning experience to allow myself to help others. The core foundation of Life Coaching is to turn negatives into positives! There is no truer statement than Life is 5% what happens to you and 95% how you react to it!
