Life Coaching in Relation to Fitness

concept2Life Coaching is an essential tool in ensuring that the results of the hard work a person has done are sustained. As we know life is 5% what happens to us and 95% how we react to it. That, in a nutshell is the difference between success and failure. For example, I could teach you all day long what the proper food choices are in what situations, what happens when a wrench is thrown in your day, maybe you got some bad news and feel like reaching for the box of comforting oreos. That has nothing to do with knowledge of what is healthy to eat, it is emotional eating. I believe we need to attack some of the reasons that got you to the point of poor health or overweight or weakness or whatever your problem is. Life coaching in conjunction with diet and exercise will give you both the knowledge and strength to make good choices on a consistent basis to ensure that you get you mind and body where it needs to be. Another prime example is the lap band surgery which costs 20k and has an 80% failure rate. What the main function of the procedure is to minimize hunger and the capacity for food. Do you think these individuals got morbidly obese because they were just hungrier than other people, don’t bet on it. The 80% failure rate comes from the patients not properly addressing the reasons why they went down that road in the first place, and the life coaching will help you choose a different road or detour!

Life coaching is more of a look towards the future rather than a look back at the past, like traditional therapy. The clients who usually seek Life Coaching are often seeking a more holistic approach to change. Focusing on the positive instead of the negative. Of course we touch briefly on the causes of such destructive behavior and the development of poor habits but the main focus is going to be on solutions. Most people have the answers inside themselves and life coaching is the tool to bring those answers to the surface. A high percentage of clients who seek life coaching are happy, well adjusted high functioning people. Maybe they have lost direction briefly and need guidance to get back in the right lane. Maybe they are riddled with a tough decision in relationships, work, family or in this case, how to go about changing the way they feel about themselves to allow a more productive lifestyle in regards of smart choices to better improve their body image and overall health. Life Coaching is not about diving into what happened to you when you were two years that affected your life today, it is more about briefly touching on the core causes of your current behavior and quick but comprehensive solutions to these issues. I personally was having an issue with my ex wife and how to get along with her. I completed five sessions with my life coach and I am a changed person. My relationship with the ex is never been better. I have to learned to have more control over my reactions and use more logic. Is what I am about to say to this person really going to change her future actions? Probably not, it never has before. The high road leads to a life of less regrets and more happiness. Is the box of oreos that I am about to eat going to make my relationship stronger, is it going to make my kids behave better, is it going to make my boss stop being a jerk??? The answer is always NO. All that it will do is make you say “why did I eat that box of oreos, now I have the same problem as before and throw in fat and weak in the mix”! My goal as a life coach as it pertains to personal training is to put an end to this self depricating behavior figure out what causes this behavior and put them back in the right lane so they can finally reach their destination instead getting lost along the way. Think of Life Coaching as your personal GPS!!!
